An American Celebration-Peninsula Symphony

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Leonard Bernstein left an indelible imprint on music in America as a composer, conductor and advocate for the arts. In celebration of his 100th birthday in 2018, we’ll perform his greatest and most revered score, the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, along with his mentor Aaron Copland’s glorious Lincoln Portrait, narrated by ABC7 News anchor Dan Ashley. Music of Howard Hanson (his “Romantic” Symphony) and Bay Area composer Nancy Bloomer Deussen (An American Hymn) complete this program of magnificent American masterworks.
